Wineries

(in no particular order)

10. Reserve Tasting Room & Lounge

Downtown Lynchburg, VA!

Open: Wednesday thru Sunday

This swank little tasting room pours some of Virginia’s best wines right in the heart of beautiful, historic downtown. It’s located near some great restaurants, making it a perfect pre-dinner pit stop for a special date.

Or, you can kick back, grab a table—inside or outside on the dog-friendly patio—and graze on some yummy nibbles with your flight or a bottle of wine. The baked brie, charcuterie board (Jefferson Sampler), and flatbreads are personal faves.

They’ve also got a corner spot inside with couches and chairs that’s perfect for a small party.

Local Tip: During the colder months, they have fire pits outside, so don’t be shy about sipping on the patio. It’s cozy and great for people-watching!

Reservations: Definitely recommended, especially if you have a larger party.

p.s. It's an easy 10-15 walk to Reserve from James Station, River House Apt, Park Place and the Candy Apple!

9. Ankida Ridge Vineyards

Amherst, VA (45 Minutes Away)

Open: Friday, Saturday & Sunday

This sweet little tasting room feels like home and you’ll see some of the most incredible mountain views from the deck! Annnd it’s dog-friendly, inside and out! (Speaking of dog friendly, we’ve got an unforgettable day in Lynchburg itinerary for you and your fur baby.)

We love their wines, especially the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (both were Virginia Governor’s Cup Gold Medal Wines for the 2022 vintages). They have a charcuterie board for snacking, and on special occasions, they’ll have other options like grilled oysters and pizza! Yum!

Local Tip: Bring a picnic, buy a bottle, and head up to their Vineyard Overlook for even more spectacular views. (Ask for directions.)

Reservations: Definitely recommended, especially if you want a prime spot on the deck.

8. Mountain and Vine (formerly Delfosse)

Faber, VA (60 Minutes Away)

Open: Wednesday thru Sunday

This winery is a hidden gem with a rustic Italian vibe, complete with gorgeous mountain vineyard views. The tasting room, event hall, and surrounding grounds are just darling, making it the perfect spot for a magazine-worthy wedding or a laid-back picnic.

They have a rotating selection of charcuterie-style grab-and-go items to pair with their 100% estate-produced old-world wines, like the 2023 Virginia Governor’s Cup winner Screaming Hawk Meritage (2021). There are loads of spots for you to drop a blanket and take in the views.

7. Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

North Garden, VA (60 Minutes Away)

Open: Tuesday thru Sunday

This is the spot to go when you want a fancy, romantic date, a bougie girls’ day out, or any other special occasion. Needless to say, dressing super cute will feel very on-brand when you arrive. It’s simply regal.

Self-described as a “culinary vineyard,” we highly recommend that you enjoy their amazing, seasonal farm-to-table dishes, which are served “tapas-style” (shareable plates) to enhance your wine-tasting experience. You won’t regret it!

There are quite a number of different ways to enjoy this incredible winery - whether you’re a couple or a small group and whether you want it to be casual or grand. Be sure to check out their website and find what’s right for you. And MAKE RESERVATIONS! This is not a drop-by kind of winery.

Local Tip: The Viognier is super popular here. Also, Pippin Hill is popular in August and September when the hydrangea bushes are in bloom, which are just lovely.

Reservations: Absolutely! Best to make them well ahead of time.

6. Veritas Vineyard & Winery

Afton, VA (60 Minutes Away)

Open: Everyday

Veritas is perfect for a pleasant sunny day! It’s lovely to walk around the vineyard, bring a blanket to sit on, and take in the mountain valley—fantastic for a picnic! Stay at Rosé All Day, a perfect 2 bedroom wine retreat within 20 minutes of Veritas and Pippin Hill!

But don’t sleep on the tasting experience, either. It’s got a laid-back country vibe yet also perfectly refined in just the right way. (Be sure to snag a selfie in front of the wine cork LOVE sign inside!)

Their tasting room serves cheese boards, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and snacks. Their Farmhouse also has an upscale restaurant (dinner only); it’s quite an experience - a four-course, prix fixe wine-paired meal, and you’ll definitely need reservations.

Reservations: Highly recommended.

Cideries

5. Bold Rock Hard Cider

Nellysford, VA (60 Minutes Away)

This mega-chill cidery is just that—MEGA. It’s huge!! There are so many seating options that you could probably have an impromptu family reunion without worry. They have tons of different ciders, including rotating seasonal options. The IPA and Premium Dry are two personal faves, but you can absolutely find ones that suit your taste.

The restaurant is perfect for apps and lunch. We recommend the pretzel sticks, bacon pimento cheese dip, wings, and any of their sandwiches.

This place also “rocks” in the summer. Check out their events calendar for live events.

This quaint little cidery is nestled in the mountain valley, just down the road from Bold Rock and right near Devil’s Backbone Brewery. It’s super casual and way less crowded. You can taste inside the Cider Hall or grab some cans to enjoy outside.

This is also a great picnic spot, especially down by the Rockfish River. But you will want to bring your own food because they only have snacks like chips and such.

3. Halcyon Days Cider Co.

Natural Bridge, VA (60 Minutes Away)

Open: Friday & Saturday Only

The rustic, charming tasting room and its location - right near Natural Bridge State Park! - make this a great little day trip. Plus, the orchard is shaped like a labyrinth that you can stroll to Zen out (Ohhhhmmmm…), and they have a smaller one in the center of the orchard, too.

Word to the wise: Either plan on packing a picnic or grabbing some grub down the road at the retro Pink Cadillac, because Halcyon only offers snacks like chips and cheese straws.

***Also! Be sure to grab a selfie with the goofy guy wearing a pot on his head and holding an apple. You’ll see…

It sits in a former Ford Dealership and is a super easy walk from the Duchess, our historic 4 bd 2 bath getaway downtown! It has plenty of seats inside or outside on the patio - perfect for sipping with the pooch.

Their rotating beers are a hit with the locals and you can find them pretty much everywhere. They also offer a great selection of non-alcoholic craft sodas!

They have snacks on hand, but if you’re super hungry, you’ll need to grab heartier food from one of the nearby restaurants.

Local Tip: They have tons of great live events and game nights, so be sure to check their calendar to see what’s up. https://www.3roadsbrewing.com/events-1

Reservations: Not available.

p.s. It's an easy 5-10 walk to Three Roads Brewing Co from the MLK Dream Home the Duchess, Courtside, and Artist House!

We’ve got a charming downtown 4 BD 2 BATH home called the Duchess that’s easy to walk to Three Roads Brewing Co and Starrhill Brewery!

Bonus Time!

Okay, so maybe we fibbed when we said 10. Why not go to 11?

Here’s an extra one for you:

Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company - Basecamp

Roseland, VA (50 Minutes Away)

Open: Everyday

This place has a mountain lodge/ campground vibe that makes it perfect for a group of friends, family, and your four-legged kiddos! There’s loads of outdoor space for you to stretch out, play some lawn games, or just enjoy the beautiful mountain valley scenery. Plus, they have a firepit for getting cozy in the evening while sipping beverages from one of the outdoor bars.

They often host super fun live events, such as music, beer festivals, craft fairs, and more, so be sure to check their calendar ahead of time. https://www.dbbrewingcompany.com/events

There’s a sit-down brewpub on site that serves wood-fired barbecue, sandwiches, and a couple of salads. On Saturdays, they serve up a tasty brisket platter.

If you’re not sure what adult beverages you’d like to enjoy, you’re in luck! This is not only a great brewery, but they are a distillery, too, and have a full bar! Check out their always-delicious Smashes (spirits and crushed juice), or head over to the Bottle Shop for some award-winning spirits.

Local Tip: The restaurant’s ordering system is a little kooky, but when you know what to expect, it’s really easy. Once you’re seated, you just scan the QR code on the table, order what you want at your own pace, and they’ll bring it out to you.

If the inside restaurant is too busy, try the outdoor bar & grille (weekends only).

Reservations: Not available.

AND THAT’S JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!

Seriously, this is a short list! The hit parade goes on for dayyys. We didn’t even add in distilleries or meaderies! You could literally spend an entire season here cruising around, raising your spirits, and taking in the scenic beauty.

Did we tell you we’ve got a getaway in Crozet, VA, just 20 minutes from Veritas Vineyard and 4 min to Kings Family Winery?

Check out Rosé All Day, our 2 bd 1.5 bath farmhouse sleeping up to 5. It’s PERFECT for your winery getaway!
